ReplyDeleteProbably Jonas can achieve this. But it requires a detachment from humanity which I would more normally expect from a stone.
About 20 years ago, when odd currents in life saw me appointed to a three-year term on the Orange County (North Carolina) Board of Social Services, when the first modest payment arrived for my attendance and expenses at the first monthly meeting, I took that check back to the Department of Social Services, and asked that no more be sent.
It certainly sounds as if you are of a mind with me on this, Rich. The main impetus for Policy 4, and for Policy 2, for that matter, are best summarized here:

The basic idea is not, of course, to minimize market exchange, but to remove the market incentive from the expression of ideas. CW is non-profit, both in spirit, to promote the free exchange of ideas, and in practice, as their dissemination is sufficient reward for the time invested.
On an only partially related note, when I created this Policies page, I didn't plan to allow comments, as I thought "Why bother?", but I thought it would be interesting to see if anyone ever had something to add. Hence the tiny font at the top. Fifteen months on, someone has something to add. Thanks, Rich. I assume that the fact that you were looking at this page in the lonesome hours is an indication that you were stricken with boredom and/or insomnia. I hope it helped.
