I wonder, Jonas, if it would be possible for you to recognize the arguments made by your opposites on this issue, and then to respond in a positive way to those arguments.
ReplyDeleteAs it is, I think you are doing what the left needs to do, as limited of course by my understanding of the left. It appears to me that you are trying to encourage voting in a particular way so that your side can win what you want. In order to do this you do not need to recognize that your opponents have arguments, rather you only need to provide your partisans with an argument.
It's really as simple as this: I think progressive taxation is a positive good. I believe that progressive taxation is a vital part of maintaining what little equity we have in this country. And I know that forces are aligned to roll back progressive taxation.
ReplyDeleteGiven this mixture of opinion and fact, I want to remind people what it means to argue in favor of sales taxes over income taxes. I have no responsibility to make my opposition's argument for them. They can roll out all the typical greedy nonsense they want without my help.
